Simon Sebastian Laumann
Simon Sebastian Laumann (1996) is a visual artist from Denmark whose work focuses on experimental printmaking and repurposing of urban materials. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Art from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design in Norway (2018–2021), later continued his studies at École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy in Paris.
Laumann’s artistic practice involves a unique technique in which he engraves on unconventional surfaces, layers colors, and transfers images onto other materials, creating one-of-a-kind monoprints. He collects posters, advertisement fragments, and other discarded materials from city streets, reworking them into new visual narratives. His work is closely connected to the urban environment and its spatial-temporal layers.
From November 2024 to February 2025, Laumann presented his solo exhibition “In Reverse” at LOOKLOOK Gallery in Copenhagen. In addition to his solo work, Laumann has participated in several group exhibitions, including the 2021 exhibition “Things Work As They Should When They Work As They Should” at Bergen Kunsthall. There, he presented the collaborative project “Stedet sker fortsatt”, which explored an abandoned wave energy plant in Øygarden, addressing its spatial and historical context.
