Sculptor Modelling a Portrait of Me (2020)

Oil and acrylic on canvas
W 100 H 100 (cm)

The painting "Sculptor Modelling a Portrait of Me" was made especially for the exhibition "Artists Painting Artists", which was part of the Estonian Artists Associations Spring Exhibition in 2020.
Foresightedly I played with my painting for the fact, that despite the invitation to portray other authors, many of the artist will send self-portraits to the exhibition. And that's how it went.
To ironize the authors self-centered approach, I placed the modelling of myself at the center of my painting. Behind the portrait was a working sculptor, whose identity was only indicated by a photo of his sculpture hanging on the wall.

Katrin Piile’s work is distinguished by technical mastery, meticulous attention to detail, and a highly time-intensive working process, most clearly expressed in her hyperrealistic paintings and drawings. Her works are often developed as larger painting series that bring together technical skill, carefully constructed color compositions, and references to the history of painting.

Katrin Piile is represented by Tütar gallery.
