Welcome to our first resident Liis Vares!
On Monday, August 4th, Liis Vares entered an empty gallery to begin a continuous dialogue with the space. For the first three weeks of August, she inhabits the room – observing her thoughts, feelings, and desires, while documenting herself and her surroundings.
From August 27–30, the resulting choreographic space will be open to the public.

Liis Vares (1986) is an Estonian choreographer and artist who has time and who gives time. Her practice centers on the contemporary body and space. She is driven by the movement of attention – a kind of invisible “dancer” that shapes the boundaries between the physical and the mental, the personal and the collective. By combining performing arts, installation, text, and digital environments, she challenges conventional forms and invites the audience to join her in a playful and unforced way. In 2022, Vares received the Estonian Cultural Endowment Annual Performing Arts Prize for her innovative choreographic practice and for engaging with politically and socially acute and sensitive topics in her work.
