Tütar gallery participates in the international art fair Foto Tallinn 2026, presenting Dénes Farkas’ photographic installation “Nothing Makes Sense”. Taking place at Kai Art Center from 18–20 September, the fair presents the latest developments in contemporary photographic art.
The photographic series is based on the artist’s numerous journeys to global seed vaults in Svalbard, Lebanon and Russia. The Svalbard Global Seed Vault and the ICARDA seed bank in Lebanon are secure backup facilities designed to preserve the diversity of the world’s crops and safeguard the global food supply against the loss of seeds caused by potential crises, including war, disease and natural disasters.
The institute in St Petersburg was one of the first institutions where seeds were studied at an academic level. During the Second World War, scientists at the institute died of starvation while protecting the specimens in their care.
The world’s seed reserves may appear inexhaustible and securely protected within these vaults, yet in reality they more closely resemble the posters presented in the installation: fragile and dependent on both the environment and human decisions.
The photographic series used in the installation was exhibited in Reykjavík, Iceland, as part of the Sequences XI art biennial (2023).
